Friday 15th May 2026 7pm: Eleanor the Great (Cert 12A). Tickets £5 Adults £2.50 Children under 15
Hi film lovers.

Eleanor the Great is a poignant and quietly subversive comedy-drama that explores grief, identity, and the complicated nature of storytelling. In her directorial debut, Scarlett Johansson brings to life the unforgettable Eleanor Morgenstein, a sharp-witted and fiercely independent 94-year-old who, after the death of her closest friend, leaves Florida to begin again in New York.
Struggling with loneliness and dislocation, Eleanor forms an unlikely bond with Nina, a young journalism student navigating her own grief. Their friendship becomes a source of comfort and connection — but also the catalyst for something more troubling. As Eleanor begins to recount stories that are not entirely her own, the line between truth and invention starts to blur, and a seemingly harmless deception grows into something far more complex.
Balancing humour with emotional depth, the film delicately examines how we construct our identities through the stories we tell — to others and to ourselves. Themes of ageing, loss, and Jewish identity are woven into a narrative that is both intimate and quietly provocative, raising questions about memory, authenticity, and the human need to belong.
Led by a remarkable performance from June Squibb, Eleanor the Great is both tender and unsettling — a film that invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and consider the fragile boundary between truth and the stories that shape our lives.
As usual, bar, ice creams, teas and coffees at the start and at the interval.
See you there.
